The Kamanga Township Squatter Upgrading Project is not just about building infrastructure,it is about restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and proving that inclusive, transparent urban transformation is possible at scale.

Full Physical Upgrade

Roads, water, electricity, housing, schools, clinics, markets, parks and waste management all delivered to urban standards.

Digital Transparency Platform

A first-of-its-kind public website with interactive maps, 3D models, live progress tracking and resident feedback tools.

Community Ownership

Residents vote on designs, monitor contractors, and help set priorities ensuring the project truly reflects their needs.

This initiative goes beyond traditional upgrading projects by combining world-class physical infrastructure with cutting-edge digital governance tools creating a new standard for how unplanned settlements are transformed in Zambia and across Africa.

Starting in 2026 and completing by 2031, the project will directly improve the lives of over 25,000 current residents and provide a safe, prosperous home for generations to come. It will serve as a replicable national model, with all plans, tools, and lessons shared openly.

Kamanga will no longer be called a “squatter settlement” it will be a proud, modern township.
